Shue/Stoltz in the “House”?

BTTF alumni pair on upcoming period film

An interesting teaming is shaping up on the just greenlighted film, The House of Mirth.   It seems that Elisabeth Shue, who has been attached to the project since early last year, will be joined by noneother than Eric Stoltz in the now forming cast, which also includes Gillian Anderson and Dan Aykroyd.  According to In Hollywood, The House of Mirth is set among New York's high society of the 1900's, and is the story of a beautiful woman named Lily Bart (Shue), who wants to marry a man of wealth and stature, but has fallen in love with a poor man.  When she is discovered to be the mistress of a wealthy man, she is cast out of polite society, but discovers her true self beyond the confines of that world.  Production is expected to begin in July, shooting on location in Canada (Montreal), Scotland and France.

Total Film rumor doctors identified

Finally got a copy of the U.K.-based magazine, Total Film mailed to me [Thanks Lora!] that contains the printed rumors about BTTF4, Ed Solomon and Sara Michelle Gellar  (June 1999, Issue 29, page 41).  You'll remember that the magazine's editor, Emma Cochrane, told us that the rumor came from the magazine's two "script doctors", who are also based in the U.K., but she didn't identify them —  I guess since she assumed I had a copy of the magazine already (we get them here in the U.S. about 3-4 weeks after they come out in the U.K.). These two script doctors are identified in the 'Rough Cut Rumors' section of the magazine, in their own column "Straight From The Horse's Mouth", as Kim Meffen and Adrian Rigelsford.  The magazine doesn't seem to share how to contact these two "Industry script-doctors", but we're looking into how we may discover from where they got their facts.  We're especially interested in where they learned of the Roswell storyline and the casting of Sarah Michelle Gellar, since these two rumors have recently been debunked by our own industry insider. Regardless, expect to see the magazine stay on top of this story, as we understand that their offices have received many inquiries from fans since the magazine hit the news stands on April 30.

I've done some additional research to see if there was any other information I could find on some of the details we've compiled, but so far, there doesn't seem to be anything out there to find.  Probes into the treatments for BTTF 4/5's competition — Magnum, P.I. and Quantum Leap — have so far turned up nothing, as has any additional information on Ed Solomon's treatments.  As soon as we hear something new from our mystery scooper, we'll pass it along.

DeLorean among Top 100 Cars of the Century

Last week, the duPont Registry announced its list of the 'Top 100 Cars of the Century', among which included the DeLorean DMC-12 automobile (1981-1982).  The Registry derived its list from surveys obtained from readers of its magazine ("A Buyer's Gallery of Fine Automobiles") and website.  The DeLorean DMC-12 gullwing ranked #63 on the list.

“Cleopatra” stars romantically linked

According to an article in next week's TV Guide, Billy Zane and his Cleopatra co-star Leonor Varela are romantically involved.  The miniseries airs May 23-24 on ABC.

Box Office Data

With all the hype over how much the new Star Wars movie would take in at the box office, I thought I'd share the facts of BTTF's history at the box office, so far.
U.S. Box Office Foreign Box Office
(approximated)
Budget
Back to the Future $210,609,762 $140,000,000 $19,000,000
Back to the Future Part II $118,450,002 $213,500,000 $40,000,000
Back to the Future Part III $87,630,852 $156,000,000 $40,000,000
Total $416,690,616 $509,500,000 $99,000,000

With a worldwide box-office take of nearly $1 billion, is it any wonder Universal's finally considering a sequel or two?!

Worthy of an Honorable Mention

Normally, we do not publish a lot of fan-created materials on our site.  However, a few pictures came across my email this week of a fan-created 'Marty McFly' action figure that just blew me away, and I felt compelled to share the photos.  At the present time, the creator does not make these in bulk to resell, so please, do not ask.  Anyway, I've chosen to post these here to show the dedication and creativity out there in the BTTF fandom, and hopefully, somebody from a toy manufacturer is reading and taking notes!  [Thanks to 'Lodger' for sharing the photos!  Great job!!!]
