The latest news in Hill Valley
Site additions and improvements
Yet again, it's been extremely quiet on the BTTF front the last several weeks, which has not produced very much news to report on. Regardless of the lack of news, things have been quite busy around here. We've got many irons in the fire, so to speak, and many improvements and changes coming along the way soon.
No doubt by now, you've noticed that we've added Keith Gow to our writing staff. Keith will be writing unique & intriguing articles on the series from time to time in his new column Future Features. We've got a lot ot work ahead of us to blend his outstanding compilation of material into this site, but for now, you can visit his Trilogy Chronology site which is now a part of this site.
We've also been extremely blessed to have added legendary writer Mary Jean Holmes to our staff. Mary Jean is a longtime fan fiction writer, and the author of a number of highly entertaining BTTF novellas over the years. We're working out details now to hopefully soon host her past stories here for downloading from BTTF.com. Meanwhile, she serves us quite well as a prominent moderator of our Message Board and Chatroom.
Lots of additional improvements and changes are in the pipeline, so stay tuned.
The latest info on the DVD's
Almost immediately after the DVDFILE.COM website published their report on the well publicized delays on the Back to the Future delays, word came down that Universal Studios Home Video is quite interested in debuting the discs at FutureFest next summer. Now that interest has been shown, we're quite hopeful that action will be taken by the various interested parties at Universal to make this event happen. It will be quite impressive if the discs are made available exclusively at this event before they can be purchased anywhere else in the world!
Also, our infamous source beeped in with this small update on the discs:
"It's circulating the offices (fairly official, I believe) that BTTF will be debuting in the Summer 2000 window I told you about. I've heard rumors about them also adding the actual screenplays to the DVDs in DVD-ROM sections, but no confirmation on that yet."
I'm quite encouraged by the details I've been hearing lately from studio employees and insiders who continually refer to next Summer as the 15th Anniversary of the series. Without a doubt, most of us fans keep up with these things. However, it's not something that the studio execs remember year to year (or month to month, for that matter) regarding individual film series. So it is very good to hear these folks mention the anniversary importance of next summer. I have a feeling that we're going to be hearing a lot more about it in the coming weeks ahead something tells me that there are much bigger plans for next summer that what we realize. Time will surely tell...
Trilogy CD released in the U.K. with a different cover!
The recent Back to the Future Trilogy CD by conductor John Debney was released on November 29, 1999 in the United Kingdom. While the tracks are identical to the September 21, 1999 U.S. release, the interesting thing here is that the cover to the CD is completely different! While this is not all that uncommon between releases outside the U.S., we're just not used to such in the BTTF collecting arena, so there's no doubt that a lot of you are like me, and will add this one to your collection for the cover alone. Sorry, we have no plans to carry this one in our online catalog at this time.
Project updates
DR. STRANGE:
Looks like Columbia has finally put this project back on the fast track we'll see if it gets made this time. As you may recall, Bob Gale wrote a big feature-length script for Columbia back in early 1986 as his follow-up project to the first Back to the Future film, but for some reason, the film never came about. Now interest is brewing again in the project, although it's doubtful that Gale's script will be used. To read a review of the 1986 script, check out the recent review at the Flixburg, USA website.
NOTHING MORE THAN MURDER:
Neil Canton's on a hot streak these days, having added this feature to his development slate. Canton will produce this thriller next, having recently Executive Produced Duets with Huey Lewis and presently producing Get Carter and American Rhapsody. The film will be about a union leader and theater owner named Joe Wilmot, who masterminds a clever scheme intended for a big payoff only to have it foiled by his mistress and an insurance investor.
THE TIME MACHINE:
Looks like Steven Spielberg has dropped this one from his development slate, and passed it along to director Brad Silberling. Spielberg has just pushed too many other projects ahead of this one for him to direct.
