A native of Raleigh and graduate of the University of North Carolina, Peyton Reed arrived in Los Angeles in the late '80s and began his career as an editor at Zaloom-Mayfield Productions. On the strength of his award-winning short, Almost Beat, he began writing and directing for the company as well. He directed numerous behind-the-scenes documentaries, including The Secrets of the Back to the Future Trilogy, Through the Eyes of Forrest Gump, and CBS's The Honeymooner's 35th Anniversary Special.
Reed then went to work for Walt Disney, where he directed The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes and The Love Bug, both for the studio's "Wonderful World of Disney" series on the ABC network. He has also directed music videos for such alternative bands as The Connells and Superchunk, and special film projects for both Walt Disney Theme Park Productions and MCA/Universal. His work has also appeared in five episodes of Comedy Central's breakthrough conceptual sketch series Upright Citizens Brigage and five episodes of HBO's alternative comedy masterwork Mr. Show with Bob & David.
Reed currently wrapped production on Bring It On, a Beacon Communications/ Universal Pictures motion picture starring Kirsten Dunst, Eliza Dushku, Jesse Bradford, Gabrielle Union and Blaque to be released on August 25, 2000. Wasting no time choosing his next big screen project, the director recently signed on to helm Universal's upcoming feature East Bound and Down, a retelling of sorts on the Smokey and the Bandit classic slated for release sometime in 2001.
